Plantar pain (metatarsalgia) often results from hyper-support problems which are also revealed by the presence of horn in areas of high pressure. Indeed, to combat this aggression, the body reacts by increasing the rate of cell renewal. Horn is created to increase the interface between the ground and the metatarsals (bones located under the forefoot). These areas of hyperkeratosis, called calluses, can be very painful when walking.
To eliminate a callus, it is necessary to sand the horn or/and to apply a balm to make disappear the horn.
FALSE! To permanently eliminate a callus, it is necessary to suppress its cause. In this case, a callus is always in an area with high pressure during walking. It is therefore necessary to apply with respect to the callus, a material which distributes the pressures. By protecting this area for at least a month, the defense reaction at the origin of the horn is suspended.
There is no difference between a corn and a callus.
FALSE! Although their genesis is identical (i.e. comes from a local and excessive pressure), a corn distinguishes by a point made up of horn in its centre. This point represents the area with highest pressures.
Calluses always reappear.
TRUE and FALSE! If you don’t treat their cause, calluses will reappear. To avoid it, wearing adapted shoes is crucial. For example, narrow shoes or high heels increase pressures on the forefoot and favour the formation of calluses. To counteract this process, EPITACT® offers protections aiming to prevent and relieve plantar pain.
