Foot pain, painful foot sole? If foot pain reduces your mobility or make walking difficult, some solutions exist. By identifying the causes of these pain, in particular thanks to the advice given by EPITACT®, you will relieve them.
What’s a plantar pain?
In the collective unconscious, plantar pain is associated with pain on the arch of the foot. However, a plantar pain is located on the sole of the foot, i.e. the inferior part in contact with the ground. Pain can also affect the whole plantar surface, that is to say the rearfoot, midfoot and forefoot.
The full body weight rests on this small area that is particularly used. Pain felt on this part can destabilise or imply compensations affecting other joints. Therefore, it is necessary to take care of your feet and prevent or treat any pain.
Relieving a plantar pain
Firstly, to relieve a plantar pain, it is preferable to understand its source to treat the symptoms but also the cause.
Causes of plantar pain
The causes of plantar pain are numerous and may be related to muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, tendons or even nerves!
In order to identify the cause, observe all the symptoms carefully. Have you noticed a lesion, redness, excrescence, swelling? Does the foot pain occur during movements or does it persist at rest?
According to these symptoms and their intensity, different causes can be involved:
• Trauma: shock, wound, fracture or repeated rubbing may cause plantar pain.
• Deformity: hallux valgus, hammer or claw toes, fallen or hollow foot arch; your feet are victims of a large number of deformities leading to acute plantar pain.
• Infection: plantar warts (papillomavirus infection) or the development of a fungal infection are both examples likely to be painful.
• Inflammation: especially in case of plantar aponeurosis or tendinopathy.
• The metatarsal head syndrome or the Morton's neuroma.
• Lastly, joint diseases such as osteoarthritis or arthritis can be responsible for pain on the foot sole.
Solutions to relieve plantar pain
Although the causes are different and treatments need to be adapted to each person, the common behaviour in case of plantar pain remains the same: to protect and relieve.
The type of protection used changes according to the source of pain. In case of irritation, a silicone interface is recommended to reduce friction and to distribute the weight better. The EPITACT® plantar cushions* aim to strengthen the plantar fat pad to distribute pressures better. In case of calluses, find out how to prevent and treat this foot involvement.
